Our Story

SoloSage started from a simple observation: almost everything written about aging assumes someone else is coordinating it — a spouse, an adult child, a family caregiver.

AARP estimates that roughly one in three Americans aged 55–74 is aging solo, without a spouse or children nearby, and that figure rises to about half for those 75 and older. Despite that scale, the honest, practical, emotionally-aware resources for this specific situation were thin — mostly scattered across legal sites and forums, written for lawyers rather than for the person actually living it.

What we set out to build

A single place that treats solo aging as a normal, planable situation rather than a crisis narrative — covering the legal prep, emergency planning, community-building, housing, finance, and pet-care questions that come up again and again, in language that respects the reader's intelligence and independence.

Where we're headed

We're continuing to expand coverage, refine our tools like the Care Team Builder, and build out resources for Spanish-speaking solo agers through our full Spanish-language site. See our Editorial Policy for how we approach the content itself.
